Welcome to the final edition of the Grayswood newsletter for 2022!
It has been an exceptionally busy few weeks, filled with lots of festive fun! Our thanks to you all for your presence at our events and for the generous donations and contributions, especially in these difficult financial times we’re all facing. We believe attendance at the Christmas Fair, Nativity performances and Carol Concerts have been some of the highest we’ve ever seen, which is super! The children and staff have worked unbelievably hard to put on some superb performances and I’m extremely proud of them all.

Even in the short time since our last Newsletter, we’ve managed to squeeze in a trip for Wrens to the theatre, a trip for Kites to the Rural Life Centre, and of course our annual Christmas lunch, Christmas service and Reindeer Run.
Now, it's time for us all to take a breather! I wish you all a peaceful Christmas break and we look forward to seeing the children back in school on Wednesday January 4th.
Take care,
Miss Cole

Haslemere Christmas Window Competition
If you are in Haslemere in the lead up to Christmas, head over to Charter Walk to see the Grayswood School window display. A special thank you to Mrs Coxeter and Rev Fiona Gwynn for co-ordinating and installing this for us. It looks spectacular!

Woodpeckers' Visit to Bockett’s Farm
To build on their Science unit about animals, Woodpecker class recently visited Bockett's Farm. The rain held off and they had a fantastic time! The trip included an opportunity to feed and stroke animals, a tractor ride and a guided tour of the farm. We even had time at the end to explore a couple of the play areas. Thank you to the parent volunteers that accompanied us on this trip.

Wrens' Theatre Trip
On Tuesday 13th December, Wrens went on their first school trip to Chichester Theatre to watch a performance of 'Dear Santa'. The class were fully engrossed in the show and I think Wrens definitely deserve an award for audience participation. One of our Wrens was even invited onto stage during the performance! The class were beautifully behaved and it was a truly magical experience enjoyed by all. Thank you to the parent helpers who volunteered their time to come with us.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service advice; Safety around water in winter
Children and young people love to play, it is how they learn and build relationships.
On cold winter days when there is snow there are lots of fun activities to do like: building a snowman, making snow angels, going on snow walks, going on sleigh rides.
|
|
As fun as these activities are, it’s important that we remind children and young people of the dangers associated with snow and ice.
- To keep away from frozen lakes and bodies of water – the bankside of rivers and lakes maybe slippery and a fall could result in entering the water
- Although a lake or pond may appear completely frozen, there is no way of knowing how thick the ice is, whether it will hold a person’s weight, or the depth of water is under the ice.
- Water and Ice is very cold, hypothermia can set in quickly a person falls into the water.
Please remind your children:
- Keep off ice formed on bodies of water – it is temporary and in a state of change
- Stay a safe distance away from the edge of rivers and ponds, so if you do slip over you don’t fall onto ice formed on a pond or river.
- Whenever possible, it is best to stick to well-lit journey routes, use a torch at night to help you keep on the path, wear warm clothing and stay away from water.
- Play in groups so if someone does need help it is easier to summon assistance

Thank you to Tesco
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Haslemere branch of Tesco for coming to our rescue last week. A local power cut struck our kitchen just prior to lunch time, and with around 200 hungry children ready to descend on the lunch hall, Tesco provided us with a large selection of items free of charge! Combined with the superb effort of Michael in the kitchen being able to rustle up a tasty last minute couscous, all the children went into lunchtime play on nice full tummies.

Physi-Fun
On the 1st of December, we held a Physi-Fun festival for the Reception and Year One classes. We had eight different stations. A few examples of the games we played were ‘Cats in the Corner’, ‘Hoop Hop Hooray’, ‘Mirror Man’ and ‘Egg vs Superman’. They all really enjoyed it. We demonstrated the activities, helped to boost their confidence and it was a great success. Although it was a bit cold, we all enjoyed ourselves and loved spending time with them.

School clubs
Hopefully you’ve had a chance to look through the clubs on offer to children in the next term. If you haven’t already, please notify Shelley in the office of which you’d like to sign your child up for. In addition, please see the leaflet below on LAMDA lessons also available to our pupils.
We are working on expanding our offer of different clubs and this will continue to be a focus into the summer term.
