Welcome to the Grayswood CE School newsletter, bringing you an update of what's been happening during October.
Firstly, we would like to say a huge well done to our wonderful Wrens on having such a successful start to their school life with us here. We very much look forward to seeing them grow and flourish during their time at Grayswood School.

Autumn Term Values Awards
At the end of every half-term, each class teacher nominates one pupil who lives out our school values every day. They write a short blurb about that individual which is then read out by a School Governor in our 'Grayswood Values Assembly'. The children do not know who has been chosen until the very last sentence, giving a wonderful surprise for the recipient. The child is given a certificate, a copy of their blurb and a green star badge that can be worn on their uniform each day.
Our congratulations to the latest recipients, Tabitha, Matilda, Etta, Douglas, O.J. and Harper.
We hope you wear your star badges with pride!

Kingfishers travel back in time
Kingfishers have thoroughly enjoyed their Stone Age topic this half-term and having ‘Ug’ visit from the Stone Age Historic Workshop was brilliant and a fantastic way to support the learning - a great day was had by all!
Throughout the day, the children completed a range of activities: investigating bones and handling artefacts; creating some amazing cave paintings; and participating in archery, which was a highlight for many!
They had a “brilliant”, “fun”, “awesome”, “fascinating” and “interesting” day!

Evie
Hello my name is Evie and I have been selected as one of the new School Ambassadors. I have worked very hard to achieve this role, so I am doing my best to be as kind, caring and considerate as I possibly can. My favourite subjects are Art, P.E. and English because I love to read, write and draw. My favourite sports are hockey and athletics, however I do love all sports.
|
|
Rayne
Hi my name is Rayne, and I'm very proud to be a School Ambassador. As a School Ambassador, I will always try my hardest to help the younger students. My favourite subjects are History, Geography and I love Maths. My favourite sports are football and long-distance running.

'Picture News'
You may have heard your child talking about 'Picture News' in recent weeks. It's a resource we have been using in assembly since September to help develop their understanding and appreciation of the world around them. Here's a look at some of the topics this month.

Good attendance is not just valuable, it's essential. Good attendance promotes good outcomes for pupils and provides them with the very best opportunity to reach their potential.
We regularly track the attendance for each child and communicate with parents where any concerns may be emerging. The government class attendance below 90% is as 'persistently absent' and under 50% 'severely absent'.
The percentage attendance figures for each class as a whole in September are:
|
1st. Wrens - 98.72%
2nd. Kites - 98.23%
3rd. Robins - 98.11%
4th. Woodpeckers - 97.05%
5th. Swallows - 96.04%
6th. Swifts - 95.14%
7th. Swallows - 96.04%
Well done Wrens on topping the leaderboard this month!

Just to remind parents/carers that our new attendance policy came into action in September 2024. If you take your child/children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

Grayswood Girls Football Report
Last Friday, the Grayswood girls took to the football pitch. We had a team of Year 5 and 6 girls and a younger team of Years 3 and 4. The opposition was tough but the girls never gave up and both teams really improved as they progressed through the tournament. It was a lovely sunny afternoon and I was so proud to see how both these teams really worked together even if the results didn’t go their way!

Grayswood Boys Football Report
Our Year 3 boys football team have also been in action this morning, travelling to play against local rivals, St Ives. There were 2 very well fought matches.
Grayswood narrowly lost the first match 1-3 and then won the second match 3-0. Well done to all the boys who played their hearts out and wore their Grayswood kit with pride!"
