Welcome to the Grayswood CE School newsletter, bringing you an update of what's been happening during the first month of the 2024/25 academic year!

|
Welcome to all our new starters!
This September we welcomed our new Wrens Reception class, plus 6 new students to our other classes throughout the school.
We are incredibly proud of how well they have settled in to Grayswood life and it has been a real pleasure getting to know them.
Robins have done a super job in helping their buddies in Wrens to feel welcome and lots of fun has been had down in the forest with Mrs. Spicer.

I really hope to support and encourage everyone in school to do their best while I am a School Ambassador. Please come to me if you have any issues or questions this year.
Outside of school, I enjoy playing rugby and I play for the Haslemere Rugby Club. I also enjoy playing golf. My favourite book is The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo."

Good attendance is not just valuable, it's essential. Good attendance promotes good outcomes for pupils and provides them with the very best opportunity to reach their potential.
We regularly track the attendance for each child and communicate with parents where any concerns may be emerging. The government class attendance below 90% is as 'persistently absent' and under 50% 'severely absent'.
The percentage attendance figures for each class as a whole in September are:
|
Joint 1st. Kites and Woodpeckers - 98.29%
3rd. Robins - 98.17%
4th. Kingfishers - 96.26%
5th. Wrens - 95.51%
6th. Swallows - 94.79%
7th. Swifts - 93.44%
Well done Kites and Woodpeckers on topping the leaderboard this month!

Just to remind parents/carers that our new attendance policy will come into action from September 2024. If you take your child/children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

Year 2 Sports Leader Training
This month, our Robins class have completed their much anticipated 'Sports Leader Training'.
During their training sessions, they worked in groups to learn and teach their peers how to play all manner of games and activities that ultimately they will deliver to Years R and 1 at breaktimes, as well as leading the exercises before school two days a week. All children received a certificate for their efforts and reports from adults who were present at the training indicate that all participated wonderfully well and contributed greatly to their respective sessions.
Once they have put their training into practice, they will receive a sports leader badge and whistle for their efforts.
