Welcome to the Grayswood CE School newsletter, bringing you an update of what's been happening as we return for the Summer Term.
We kicked off a sunny start to the new term with a fun game of Rounders in the school playground!
As the weather improves, we always try and get outside as much as possible. Please do ensure to apply sunscreen to children before School each morning, and send them in with a hat and a bottle of water.

Staffing Updates
We are pleased to announce that Mrs. White has joined our Board of Governors as our Staff Governor.
Below, Mrs. White gives a little introduction to herself and her reasons for wanting to join the Board:
|
|
"I have had the pleasure of working at Grayswood for the past 5 years and have loved it. As with all jobs, there are challenges, but it has been very rewarding. However, that isn’t where my history with Grayswood starts; my children have all been here, the first three when it was an infant school only and then the fourth was here during the transition to a junior school, so was here for 7 years. I also attended Grayswood many, many years ago when you could go in the woods at playtimes and when we all got milk in little bottles at break time!
I decided to offer to become a Staff Governor to be able to give something back to the school; the staff have a good relationship here and I hope to be able to feed that back to the governing body and progress that relationship further."

In other staffing news, next week we will bid a sad farewell to Jackie Simpson, our School Business Manager. She has been a tremendous asset to the school since she joined us, and we will miss her tremendously. Taking up the role will be Kayleigh Atkinson. Please join us in welcoming her to our Grayswood School family!

Year 2 Head To The Pool
Summer term sees our Year 2 class begin their weekly swimming lessons at The Herons swimming centre. The children were so excited, as though it was their birthday AND Christmas Day at the same time, really looking forward to being able to swim with their friends.
Even though there were some nerves, every child gave the swimming a really good go and all came out smiling and talking excitedly about what they had just experienced. A brilliant first session for the class!

World Earth Week
This year, Grayswood have taken Earth day a little further and held an Earth Week. The theme of this year is Planet vs. Plastic and time has been dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring action to tackle the various environmental challenges facing our planet. Each class had a particular focus e.g. plastic pollution, water pollution, litter and climate change .
|
|
All children engaged really well and made thoughtful and considerate contributions, demonstrating how passionate they are about protecting our planet and providing a better future for generations to come. The children have been recycling soft plastics in the lunch hall, washing up yoghurt pots, and making eco planters using seeds from food waste.

DATE FOR THE DIARY: 24.05.24 - Feel Good Friday Breakfast
On Friday 24th May, in support of Mental Health Awareness week, the Grayswood antibullying ambassadors have planned a whole school 'Feel Good Friday Breakfast.' The aim is to slow things down as the children come into school that day, so they can have time with their friends and teachers, to just chat to one another and take some time to relax and reflect. The children can come into classes from 8.20 that morning and the antibullying ambassadors will have provided mindfulness activities for classes. Then from 8.35 until 9.05, the children will be having breakfast in their classes with their teachers! We would like for children to bring in one easy to pack breakfast item, such as a croissant/ pan au raisin/ chocolat etc for themselves and then an optional item that they could share with others on their tables, such as a punnet of grapes or strawberries (washed would be very helpful!).
Please can we remind everyone that we must not have any nut products in school as we have a number of allergies. Thank you for your support with this. We are really looking forward to rounding off the half term in this positive way!
From Mrs Harris and the Antibullying Ambassadors

Good attendance is not just valuable, it's essential. Good attendance promotes good outcomes for pupils and provides them with the very best opportunity to reach their potential.
We regularly track the attendance for each child and communicate with parents where any concerns may be emerging. The government class attendance below 90% is as 'persistently absent' and under 50% 'severely absent'.
The percentage attendance figures for each class as a whole in April are:
|
1st. Wrens - 97.97%
2nd. Swallows - 97.19%
3rd. Kites - 96.80%
4th. Woodpeckers - 96.43%
5th. Robins - 93.33%
6th. Swifts - 92.49%
7th. Kingfishers - 89.97%
Well done Wrens on topping the leaderboard for another month!

Running Club
After such huge success last year, we have loved having our lunchtime Running Club back this term.
The children have put in a super effort and shown great perseverance to see how many laps of the green they can complete - doing it all with massive smiles on their faces!
|
|
Our thanks to Mrs. Taylor and all the parent helpers who make Running Club possible!
