Welcome back to a new school year here at Grayswood CE Primary School.
And of course, a very special welcome to all the new children and families who have joined us!
We have been so impressed with how our newest pupils have settled in to their new school, and also how our older children have so warmly and compassionately welcomed their new peers.
You have made us extremely proud!

|
We have had an extremely busy start to the school year, with awards, new clubs, sports tournaments and music lessons kicking off. We've also made the most of some of the beautiful weather we've been blessed with this past couple of weeks, with lots of outdoor play and learning.
As the weather starts to take more of an Autumnal turn, please remember to send children in with a coat. We still love to get them outside as much as possible, so a coat really is essential.

We are also hosting out first parent coffee morning on Thursday 5th October. This will be very informal and a chance to meet our new Home School Link Worker and Emotional Support Assistant, Sarah De Marcos. Please do pop along from 8:45am, we would love to see you!

Grayswood Eco Award
We are delighted to announce that as a result of last year's Eco Warriors' efforts, Grayswood has been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag.
This is an internationally recognised accreditation for excellence in sustainable education. For the award we focussed on 3 key areas that we wanted to improve, these were: transport, energy and marine conservation. Our Eco-Warriors held a screen free day, participated in a whole school earth day, created an under the sea mural using recycled bottle tops and so much more to help raise awareness and educate others about sustainable living.
A huge congratulations to our Eco Warriors and Mrs Woods, who leads the team.

Grayswood's first football tournament of the year
Congratulations to our Year 4 and Year 5/6 football teams who this month played their first football tournament of the year.
They played with great determination against much larger schools than us. The year 5/6 team reached the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Key Stage 2 Silver School Games Mark Award
Earlier this month, we also received the news that we have achieved the Silver School Games Mark Award.
|
|
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. It recognises the physical activity and school sport at the heart of schools, providing young people with the opportunity to learn through competition to achieve their personal best.
|
Mrs Taylor, our PE lead, has worked extremely hard to raise the profile of PE and the importance of physical activity over the last few years. We are very proud of the many opportunities we now offer at Grayswood and it is wonderful to have our achievements acknowledged and celebrated by the School Games Mark committee.

Dear Parents/Carers,
We hope the term has started well for you and your children and would like to extend a warm welcome to any families who have recently joined the school.
The Friends of Grayswood School (FROGS) has an exciting calendar of events planned for this year. More details to follow!
We are writing to let you know about our AGM, which will take place on Tuesday 17th October at 8pm. It is a chance to find out about the fundraising initiatives FROGS has run in the last year. The AGM is an essential part of our charitable status so please do consider attending (from the comfort of your own home!) It usually only lasts about 30 minutes. Please email grayswoodfrogs@gmail.com if you would like us to send you the Zoom link.
We would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that our annual Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday 9 December 2-4pm. Please do save the date!
Finally, we are on the lookout for volunteers to help with our second-hand uniform shop. After many years of service, Michelle is stepping down from FROGS as her daughter will soon be leaving Grayswood. If you think you might be able to spare some time to help with uniform or have a place to store it, do get in touch. The uniform shop is really important for the school and raises a significant sum each year. Buying uniform second-hand is kinder on the pocket and the planet!
With best wishes,
The FROGS Team
