Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is a government grant allocated to schools via the local authority for the support of pupils from families who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals, Looked After Children or vulnerable children. This funding stream, first available in the 2012-2013 financial year, is given as a way to address the current underlying inequalities between these groups of children and their peers. It specifically targets disadvantage and must reach the pupils who need this additional support the most. It is allocated annually and is clearly identifiable.
Schools are free to spend Pupil Premium in any way which maximises the benefits and learning opportunities for pupils. We are accountable for the way in which we have used the additional funding to support children from low income families. We are required to publish on our website how we have used Pupil Premium to ensure that every Pupil Premium child makes the best progress of which they are capable from their individual starting points.
